MARCO CLARI
Marco Clari started fishing as a child with his father and grandfather, mainly in the big river at the bottom of the valley, and later tried other techniques. About ten years ago, thanks to a friend who gave him a fly rod and reel, he got to know and try out this fantastic technique, which fascinated him so much that he never went back and chose it as his only fishing technique. He started dry-fishing, but as he almost always frequents alpine streams and, unfortunately, dry-fishing is profitable for only a few months of the year, he decided to make use of the fishing trips according to the conditions of the various streams, thus also using nymphing. After learning the casting technique, he started practising what is called 'Alternative Flyfishing', i.e. fishing for many species of fish both in freshwater and at sea from the boat.
A few years after entering the world of fly fishing, he started to build flies, at first followed by a great friend and great builder, Fulvio Michelotti, whom he will never stop thanking. He began by building classic American and European dry flies, which he used in the early days in his most frequented streams throughout Piedmont. Later on, with the birth of new construction techniques and new materials, he began to vary and modify his construction style, using new materials in the best possible way, always respecting the construction canons, he really likes to test and always try to improve his imitations, which he continues to experiment with in various rivers and streams in Italy and also occasionally in some fishing holidays abroad, where the fishing pressure is very high, the catches are never taken for granted and his imitations are put to the test, which is a reason and stimulus to continue experimenting and modifying his artificials. In 2016 at the birth of the Flyfishing360 group and website, he took part and is still a member of the team in the Dressing section regarding fly construction. At the 2017 Vicenza Fair he built at the FlyFishing360 stand's Flytying Corner together with other flytyer members and friends of the team including Luca Barosselli and Andrea Rossetti. In 2018/2019/2020 he took part in the Fly Tyng Experience at the Vicenza Fair and the EOS Show 2022 in Verona together with many nationally and internationally renowned builders, he says it was a wonderful experience that allowed him to compare the techniques and ideas of other flytyers with his own imitations so that he could improve and modify techniques and the use of materials as they evolve.
He sometimes participates in construction evenings at some clubs in the province of Turin, where he makes his knowledge and his most used and most appreciated imitations available according to their use in fishing in the various waterways he frequents.
For a few years now, he has been collaborating with and being a member of the Gulff and Textreme Pro Team where several international manufacturers are present.
Today, he continues to build and experiment with new methods and materials by comparing with other internationally renowned fly tyer friends in order to never stop learning and keeping up with the evolution of methods and materials.
