COSIMO RAIA
“In the world of fishing I consider myself lucky, I would dare say very lucky: I practically grew up on the banks of a stream and not only,” explains Cosimo Raia, who began fishing with worms and maggots as a child, then moved on to spinning and in the last 50 years to fly fishing. He was also lucky enough to have a job that often took him to the United States where he had the opportunity to meet and spend time with historical figures in the world of fly fishing. He met bamboo rod builders who helped him start that wonderful hobby. Then great Tyers who led him in the direction of building classic salmon flies, finally in the construction of hooks for classic salmon flies. “It’s a very long list of people I was lucky enough to be friends with. They tried to pass on to me those values that our ancestors would like to be passed on... I tried, unfortunately with little success. I love literature and consequently history and culture.”
@Cosimo Raia considers himself lucky because he met many people who taught him how to build bamboo rods, then artificial flies, then hooks. Hear his story at the Italian Fly Tying Show, on @EOSshow on February 8 and 9, 2025.
